Poetry Blogs and Communities to Help and Inspire You

Poetry

Poetry has been used as a glorious expression of sentiment, an avenue for creative idiom, and a of sharing thoughts and emotions throughout the ages. Today, through online communities and blogs, a collection of stanzas can unite people all over the world. Whether you’re a aficionado of classic poetry or more into the modern age, here are blogs and communities perfect for taking pleasure in verse.

Deep Underground Poetry

This free platform lets you share and publish poems, lyrics, short stories, spoken word and performance poetry. You can also meet other poets, writers and spoken word artists, get critique and improve your writing, take part in poetry competitions and host your own. Every comment you make has a link to your own submissions. Leaving interesting, helpful critique is a great way to get more people to read your work.

My poetic side

My poetic side was created for the poetry community. Select the "Community" tab to read full poems written by other community members or create something new by collaborating with these poets on a space called “Fusioned.” These are living poems where each line is written by a different online collaborator.

Hello Poetry

They are an invite-only community of writers in effort to keep it small. To join, submit a piece of your own and "Hello Poetry" moderators will review it as soon as possible.

Read A Little Poetry

Created by T. De Los Reyes, this blog aims to not only celebrate the love of poetry, but also to uplift different voices. You might enjoy the selections in the “You might also like these” section this blog features a “Random Poem” button to generate a poem from the archives.

Jacket2

Jacket2 provides commentary on poems and books of poetry, however, the most inspirational posts are ones that discuss elements of life while adding excerpts from poems that apply to the topic. The blog has a "Poem of the Day" feature and for those of us who prefer our poetry to be spoken aloud, there is an audio option for each piece. If you like a poem you’ve found, there is even a function to view the collection the poem originally appeared in, so you can search for more.

Poetry Foundation

If you want to read poems, reviews of full poetry books, or essays from momentous poets on their recent works, the Poetry Foundation has a wonderful blog.

All Poetry

All Poetry connect you with a small group to trade critiques in a safe environment. When we get to know people, it's easier to accept critical feedback from each other. Each user forum is a small group with its own message forum, chat, and list of member's poems to comment upon. It also offers free writing courses.

The most common struggle with poetry is reaching out to people and making friends. The idea is fairly simple. Think about the best thing anybody has ever said to you about your poetry. If you haven’t shared your poetry with anyone yet, think about what would make you excited as a poet. Positive comments and interactions make our day as writers and that is true for everyone.

Read others' poetry. Share authentic compliments and feedback, you might find that others will want to return the favor. Don’t do it just so that people can return the favor, but by being kind and engaged with others, you’ll find that people will naturally start checking out your work too.

If you write regularly, then the success will build and the more people that see your poetry, the more that will follow you. The more hearts that your poetry reaches, the more opportunities that will come your way.

At the end of the day, it’s about trying things out! You might start out shy but with practice and sharing more, you may become more confident and even improved your writing skills. I hope this advice was helpful in helping you find a place to post.
