The process of getting published for many a fledgling writer has long been murky, and as part of the Idea farms efforts to build a more diverse community of authors and create more pathways to publishing, we’ve made this handy article to provide you with resources that might help you be seen. Below are some opportunities we think will help you to get yourself out there and on your way to recognition. We've broken them down into categories for people who already know their own comfort zone.
HORROR
TP's mission is to drag the malleable horror genre into newer, weirder territory with stories that are provocative, intelligent and terrifying, delivered by voices diverse & unsung.
Horror Society is a small but personal place where you will find news from the independent and mainstream horror scene, upcoming movies and DVDs, events and conventions, reviews, interviews, on-set reports, and more. If you truly want to be a part of this ever-growing site and would like to contribute stories, articles on horror, or showcase your own work. They are always looking for writers and indie artists to inform about what’s going on in horror.
Dragon Soul Press

Chestnut Reviews
Chestnut Review appears four times per year online and once per year in print in an annual anthology. We are drawn to beautiful language, resonant images, and we crave narrative. We enjoy a broad array of styles, but please read a few of our issues to get a sense of our lens.
The Hudson Review publishes fiction, poetry, essays, book reviews; criticism of literature, art, theatre, dance, film, and music; and articles on contemporary cultural developments. If you are interested in writing reviews for our magazine, please note that we consider first submissions on-spec only.
Inanna Publications and Education Inc. was founded in 1978 with the goal of making current writing and research on a wide variety of feminist topics accessible to the largest possible audience. They welcome fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and academic works (including essay collections) on society, politics, culture and the arts that speak to the diverse lives of women around the world.
They want to host content from new and emerging Black millennial voices on pop culture, LGBTQIA+ issues, politics, feminism, and many other topics. Please note that they do not publish pieces that reinforce respectability politics. We embrace Black feminism in our politics and it informs what we do. They also accept republishes.
POETRY AND LITERATURE
Unicorn Press seeks to publish excellent works of poetry that are unlikely to find a home elsewhere. We do not publish short fiction, general non-fiction, novels, science fiction, how-to or self-help books, reference texts, individual poems, artist books, or children’s literature.
Vast Chasm Magazine publishes bold work that explores the expansive human experience, including flash and short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and other nonconforming work.
We read year-round, on a rolling basis, for our quarterly online issues.
Codhill Press is seeking poetry manuscripts for the second round of its Guest Editor Poetry Series. Designed to both honor its past and expand its poetry offerings into the future, each year, the Guest Editor will select one manuscript for book publication. The inaugural selection, from last year, was Jeddie Sophronius’ Happy Poems & Other Lies, which will be released this summer.

The Poetry Foundation is a 501(c)(3) exempt private nonoperating foundation located in Chicago, Illinois. Established in 2003 upon receipt of a major gift from philanthropist Ruth Lilly, the Poetry Foundation evolved from the Modern Poetry Association, which was a literary organization founded in 1941 to support the publication of Poetry magazine. The gift from Ruth Lilly allowed the Poetry Foundation to expand and enhance the presence of poetry in the United States and established an endowment that will fund Poetry in perpetuity.
The Offing
The Offing is an online literary magazine publishing creative writing in all genres and art in all media.
This mag actively seeks out and supports work by and about those often marginalized in literary spaces, including Black and Indigenous people, and people of color; trans people, cis women, agender, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, two-spirit, and non-binary people; intersex people; LGBQA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, asexual/aromantic) people; people with disabilities; and especially people living at the intersections of these identities.
